The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has received relief items valued at approximately $300,000 from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support victims of recent floods in parts of the country.
The donation, presented at NADMO’s headquarters in Accra, includes food supplies, clean water, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, and hygiene products.
The items will be distributed to affected communities in Greater Accra, Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region, and Dosukorpe in the Volta Region.
Speaking during the presentation, the Africa West Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said the donation reflects its commitment to serving humanity and supporting vulnerable families during times of crisis.
The Church said while the value of the relief items is significant, the true impact lies in the lives that will be saved, the hope restored, and the relief the supplies will provide to families affected by the floods.
It also urged Ghanaians to adopt responsible environmental practices to help reduce the risk of future flooding.
The Church called on citizens to keep drains and waterways free from refuse, stressing that proper sanitation and environmental care are essential in preventing flood disasters.
It further invited the public to participate in its annual All-Africa Service Project, scheduled for August 15, 2026, which focuses on environmental clean-up, tree planting and other community service activities.
The Director General of NADMO, Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, expressed gratitude for the support, describing the donation as timely and a major boost to ongoing efforts to provide relief to flood victims across the affected regions.
He has also acknowledged the church’s relationship in times like this and hopes it sustains to assist in disaster management.
Dr. Kuyon has assured the public that the items will reach genuine victims to ensure accountability.
