The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Dr Prince Hamid Armah, has opened a nine-day workshop currently being held at Larteh in the Eastern Region to develop the Teacher and Learner Resource materials to support the implementation of the Common Core Curriculum.

The Executive Secretary, while addressing the participants on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, emphasised the need for the Teacher and Learner Resource Packs to complement the effective implementation of the Common Core Programme (CCP) scheduled to be rolled out in September 2020.

In addition, Dr Armah reiterated the point that the resource packs would only serve as a ‘stop gap’ measure, “as we wait for the development of textbooks and teacher’s guides from publishers for the implementation of the CCP subjects-Curricula for B7-B10.”

Dr Armah commended participants for demonstrating a higher level of commitment and dedication to improve Ghana’s educational system through the reformation of the curriculum.

He thanked participants for their continuous support, and encouraged them to give off their very best to ensure that the ultimate goal of making learners locally relevant and globally competitive through education is achieved.

In all, 60 writers and two resource persons (from Cambridge International, UK) are participating in the workshop.

The material developers were drawn from the Teacher Training Institutions, Universities, Educational Consultants, Curriculum Specialists and Classroom Teachers (Junior and Senior High Schools).
