There are plans to have training workshops for journalists in the country especially those who do special reports on the military, and anything regarding the security services as well as other issues bothered on security journalists are not preview to.

This was disclosed when the executives of the Volta branch of GJA and some senior journalists were invited to the 66 artillery barracks in Ho by the C E O of the 66 artillery Regiment Lt Col Bernard Baba Pantoah for an interaction.

The workshop according to the PRO Charlse  Annang is aimed at equipping journalists also with the structural of the service and its ranks aside training journalists on security issues.

Annang also said, there is the need for journalists to have an interaction with command as to what their expectations are on the relations between the military and the civilian.

Mr Charlse  Annag said it was necessary for journalists to know more about the hierarchy of the service and the ranking system.

This according to him is based on the recognition of the role of the media in promoting preventive diplomacy and democracy and the workshop is in collaboration with the southern command.

Interacting with GJA executives ,  LTt Col Bernard  Baba Pantoah  said the workshop provides a framework for exchange and reflection on issues relating to press freedom, democracy and security in the country.

As such, it seeks to promote a sense of professional solidarity among journalists, and to facilitate networking.

Another of its objectives is to strengthen capacity among media professionals on the issues, terminology, legal texts, and national and international conventions relating to human rights and conflict prevention.

On other issues  discussed were issues relating to relationship  between the media and the military in enhancing unity and development in the region as well civilian –military relationship  and issues relating to misconducts of some few officers who have been reprimanded and punished by their actions.

According to LTt Col Bernard  Baba Pantoah, there have been efforts to make the officers understand that civilians are needed for the progress of the military and training on the conduct of military against the civilians.
