The Public Relations Department of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has given more details about its aircraft CASA C295 with registration number GHF552 which overrun the apron at the Air Force base in Accra, Wednesday morning.
According to the Armed Forces Command, the incident occurred at about 11:10 hours during a routine run. There was no casualty and there were no passengers on board the aircraft.
In a statement, singed by the Director of Public Relations of the GAF, Colonel E. A. Aggrey-Quashie, dated January 22, 2020, the Command said a preliminary investigative team had been constituted to come up with an initial report within 48 hours.
Colonel Aggrey-Quashie said the manufacturers of the aircraft, Airbus have been notified of the incident.
“They are expected to fly in a team to join their Ghanaian counterparts for a thorough assessment of the aircraft damage. It is worthy to note that the aircraft is recoverable.
“The CASA C295, manufactured in November 2015 and delivered in February 2016, was due for a mandatory check in November 2019. The aircraft has been non-operational since October 2019.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the public and especially its clientele that the Ghana Air Force is still operational and its activities have not been affected by this incident. The morale of personnel is high and all are going about their normal activities,” the Director noted.
