A 40-year-old mason has been remanded into police custody for one week by a district court in Assin Fosu over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack that left a farmer with multiple cutlass wounds.
Kofi Awuakye appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court on charges of unlawful entry, unlawful possession and use of an offensive weapon, and causing harm.
The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, granted the prosecution’s request to remand the accused to allow police to complete their investigations.
The accused was ordered to remain in custody until June 18, 2026.
According to the prosecutor, Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the complainant, Kwabena Atta, a 35-year-old farmer from Assin Fosu, was awakened by unusual noises while asleep in his room in the early hours of October 29, 2025.
The prosecution added that Atta allegedly found Awuakye in the room, raiding his belongings while armed with a knife.
The accused allegedly attacked the complainant when he raised an alarm, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on his right shoulder, back and other parts of his body before fleeing the scene.
Although residents responded to the distress call and attempted to apprehend the suspect, he managed to escape.
Atta was subsequently issued a Police Medical Report Form, received treatment for his injuries and later submitted the endorsed medical report to assist investigations.
Efforts were made to find the suspect for several months until the complainant reportedly spotted him at the Adiembra Lorry Station in Assin Fosu on June 3, 2026.
With the assistance of members of the public, Awuakye was arrested and handed over to the police.
During interrogation, the accused denied involvement in the alleged offences. However, police said investigations linked him to the attack, leading to his arrest and arraignment before the court.
The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026.
