Embattled General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) is unhappy about the appointment of former Attorney General, Martin Amidu as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor.
According to Atik Mohammed, his choice is to promote “vengeance” on his ‘enemies not “justice”.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday January 11,2018 announced citizen vigilante, Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor for the newly created office of the Independent Prosecutor.
Quoting the law that set up the office of the special prosecutor, the president said he has accepted the choice of the Attorney General and will present to Parliament, the name of Martin Amidu for consideration.
In a brief announcement at the Flagstaff House, Thursday, the president commended the public spiritedness of the man widely acclaimed as an anti-corruption crusader, a bulwark in the fight against corruption.
But Mr. Amidu’s nomination has received mixed reaction with many especially from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) describing the move as populace.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Atik Mohammed said the choice of Mr. Amidu could be a recipe for disaster.
He explained that, the former Attorney General in the erstwhile Mahama administration has a lot of pain in him thus will use his position the witch hunt for appointees perceived to have engaged in corrupt  acts.
The PNC General Secretary said though Mr. Amidu is more than qualified, his appointment may be seen a ploy by the Akufo-Addo led government haunt appointees of the NDC government.
Atik Mohammed however congratulated the citizen vigilante and urged him to the neutral in his work.
