The Ministry of the Interior has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a statutory public holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 15, the Ministry urged the general public to observe the day nationwide as a public holiday. The statement was signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 27th May 2026, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, acts of charity, and the ritual sacrifice of animals in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and obedience to God.
