Man knocked down by trotro on Achimota Highway

A young man sustained serious injuries after being struck by a commercial vehicle (trotro) while attempting to cross the Achimota Highway around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Eyewitnesses say the trotro, which was travelling at high speed, hit the pedestrian as he tried to navigate his way across the busy road.

Speaking to Citi News, a driver at the Achimota Station who witnessed the incident said tensions escalated quickly, with some onlookers threatening to assault the driver in retaliation.

Sensing danger, the driver reportedly fled the scene and later turned himself in at the Tesano Police Station.

With the help of the police and another motorist, the injured man was transported to the hospital, where he is receiving emergency medical attention.
