A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly sitting a Civil Service promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service in Abuja.

Monsuru was apprehended on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination.

He was reportedly arrested by security personnel deployed to monitor the examination on the orders of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Monsuru told security operatives that his father was sick but was also at the university where the examination was being held.

The 33-year-old reportedly confessed that his father had asked him to sit for the examination on his behalf.

During questioning, Monsuru reportedly gave his father’s age as between 67 and 68 years. However, Musa Mohammed told authorities that he would turn 60 in February 2027.

Further questioning established that the father completed his secondary education in 1982 and primary education in 1977.

Following the incident, both father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).

The incident has raised concerns over examination impersonation and attempts to circumvent the integrity of promotion exercises within the public service.
