A political analyst, Dr Osei Bonsu, has described former President John Mahama’s comment on the violence that characterised the Ayawaso West Wuogon elections as unfortunate.

According to Dr Bonsu, the former president should not have said the NDC would match the New Patriotic Party (NPP) boot-for-boot because such comments have the tendency to incite violence.

“Everyone condemned what happened in Ayawaso West Wougon yesterday but after he condemned it there was no need for him to add that they play a vital role in violence, it was unnecessary and it doesn’t help the democracy of our country,” he noted.

“He must come out to apologize to Ghanaians for the statement, there can be damage control if he retracts the statement,” he stated on Adom News Friday.

The former President was quoted as saying: “I am sounding a warning to the NPP: we are going to march them boot for boot.  We respect the constitution of this country and the NDC is a democratic party and that is why we abide by the rules of the constitution.

“But the same constitution says that Ghanaians should resist anybody who attempts to subvert the Constitution. And when you go rampaging with forces and intimidating people when they should come and vote, you are subverting Ghana’s constitution. And we have a right to resist you,” he told a gathering in the Volta region.
