President John Dramani Mahama says government is optimistic the Kasoa–Winneba road project will be completed by the end of 2026 or, at the latest, in the first quarter of 2027.

Speaking after inspecting ongoing works on the busy stretch on Thursday, April 23, he expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of work, acknowledging the inconvenience commuters currently face.

“I can understand the frustration of commuters on this road, but as the minister said, help is on the way. I have inspected the road, I have seen the progress of work, the quality of work, and I think the contractor has done a good job,” he said.

The President noted that the performance of the contractor reinforces confidence in local expertise.

“It reinforces our confidence in the capacity of Ghanaian contractors to be able to do world-class projects like any international contractor,” he added.

He indicated that, if work continues at the current pace, sections of the road could be opened soon.

“The progress of work is good. We are hoping that we should be able to open through this whole stretch from Kasoa to Winneba by the end of the year or at least in the first quarter of next year,” he stated.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, also hinted at efforts to fast-track the project.

“I hear the contract period ends in March 2027. We are working with the contractor to actually complete this project this year by 31st December this year, three months ahead of schedule,” he said.

He further highlighted government’s commitment to ongoing infrastructure projects, noting that significant funds have already been released.

“You directed that no road project you inherited should be suspended and indeed, as I said, as of last month you had paid over GHS12 billion to projects you inherited,” he added.

The contractor on site said work is progressing across several sections, with attention also being given to pedestrian safety.

“To take care of pedestrians we’ve also made provision for 15 grade separated pedestrian crossings. We have a mixture of underpasses and overpasses depending on the terrain and the security of the environment,” the contractor explained.

He added that construction is ongoing in multiple areas, including Awutu Bereku, and remains on track within the agreed timelines.

The Kasoa–Winneba road is a key corridor linking Accra to the Central Region, and its completion is expected to ease congestion, improve safety, and enhance movement along the route.
