The Volta Regional Coordinator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), popularly known as Mahama Care, Emefa Daitey, says seven clients with various cancer-related conditions have so far been registered under the programme in the region.
She disclosed this during a presentation at the 3rd Volta Regional Coordinating Council meeting held at the Residence Conference Room on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to her, some of the patients are receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital, while others have been referred to specialised health facilities in Accra and Kumasi due to the unavailability of certain services in the region.
She explained that one child has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while another is receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Another child diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma has also been referred to Korle Bu for specialised treatment.

Ms Daitey added that patients diagnosed with breast cancer and cervical cancer are currently being managed at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
She said the referrals are part of efforts by Mahama Care to ensure beneficiaries receive appropriate specialised treatment, regardless of where the required service is available.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is a government-supported health intervention designed to provide financial assistance for the treatment of selected serious medical conditions for eligible beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has commended the Mahama Care programme for supporting residents suffering from non-communicable diseases.
Speaking to Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, Mr Gunu said the programme was helping families who would otherwise struggle to meet the cost of medical treatment.
He said reports received by the RCC indicated that beneficiaries were receiving the needed support, easing the financial burden associated with their treatment.
Mr Gunu also urged residents to maintain peace and unity, stressing that stability was crucial to attracting investment and accelerating development in the Volta Region.
