Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi East, Edward Enin is at sea over government’s handling of the controversial concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS).
“I’m really confused; what is happening? I thought we had experienced and knowledgeable people in government who could have done due diligence in this PDS deal,” he bemoaned while reacting to fallouts from the PDS deal on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Tuesday.

The government has indicated its intent to terminate the PDS contract after it claimed the company failed to provide a valid demand guarantee to prove its financial muscle to manage Electricity Company of Ghana.
However, it has emerged that, the United States government is breathing on the neck of the government to reinstate PDS.
But, Mr Enin is surprised the government seems to have been cowed by external pressure.

“Government should have acted really fast when it noticed PDS was engaged in fraud but now it will be very difficult to terminate the contract,” he said.
Mr Enin, who served as former vice chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament for 12 years, said the PDS agreement is the most controversial he has seen.
The former Obuasi East MP said it is obvious those who supervised the contract failed to do enough due diligence before settling on PDS as a concessionaire.

“Everyone knows in NPP we don’t make mistakes like that, this is so humiliating,” he added.
Mr Enin urged the government to stamp its authority and ensure the State’s interest is protected.
