It has emerged that the 48 ambulances promised by President Nana Akufo-Addo are still parked in the sun at the forecourt of the Parliament House in Accra.
The 48 ambulances are part of the 275 ambulances government promised to revamp the ailing National Ambulance Service, which as of 2018, had only about 55 ambulances working across the country.
However, since the arrival of the ambulances, the government is yet to distribute them as promised.
The motive for the delay, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George claims is for electioneering purposes.
He claimed that the government had decided to decorate the forecourt of Parliament with the ambulances after about six months since it took delivery of them.

The Ningo-Prampram MP said the situation has forced many people to resort to the use of either commercial or private vehicles as ambulances to convey injured or sick persons to hospitals during emergency.
“Why decorate Parliament with ambulances when people are dying? It doesn’t make sense to me,” he fumed on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, monitored by Adomonline.com, Monday

He was certain the government wants to distribute the ambulances in 2020 to score cheap political points.
This, he noted, is not surprising since all the New Patriotic Party cares about is winning elections.

The Ningo-Prampram MP was of the view that it was “ridiculous” for the government to weigh the thought of waiting till an election year before it distributes the ambulances when people, especially in the hinterlands die every day.
