The University Hospital, Legon has suspended services at its General Outpatient Department (OPD), Specialist Clinics and Pharmacy counselling unit following the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The affected services have been suspended from Thursday, August 13, 2026, until further notice.
The hospital explained that the decision was necessary due to disruptions caused by the GAUA strike, which has affected administrative operations at public universities.
The Emergency Department, however, remains open and will continue to provide care to patients requiring urgent medical attention.
The GAUA industrial action stems from concerns over the implementation of the association’s conditions of service and other outstanding welfare-related issues affecting university administrators.
The association has been pushing for the concerns to be addressed, arguing that some of the issues have remained unresolved despite engagements with relevant authorities.
The strike has disrupted administrative activities at several public universities, prompting institutions to introduce measures to minimise its impact on operations.
As part of efforts to resolve the impasse, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is expected to meet representatives of GAUA this week to discuss the issues that led to the industrial action.
