The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has called for a review of the National Sanitation Day, proposing the exercise be moved to the first Friday of every month, instead of Saturdays.

According to him, the level of participation recorded during Friday’s sanitation exercise by both public and private institutions far exceeded what is usually witnessed during Saturday clean-up exercises.

He believes this demonstrates the need to reconsider the current schedule.

Speaking to the media after touring parts of the Kumasi Central Business District, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi expressed satisfaction with the turnout by various institutions.

The Forestry Commission, the Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (CSALW), the Passport Office, and several other organizations in the Adum area actively participated in the clean-up exercise.

“Institutions such as the Forestry Commission, the Passport Office, and many others in the Adum area turned out in their numbers to support the exercise, making it very successful. I expect residents to demonstrate the same level of commitment during tomorrow’s exercise,” he said.

The Mayor explained that scheduling the National Sanitation Day on the first Friday of every month would encourage greater participation from government agencies, private institutions, and corporate organizations, thereby strengthening efforts to improve sanitation and maintain a cleaner city.

As part of the two-day sanitation exercise, officials from the KMA Environmental Health Department, together with the Assembly’s task force and the Mayor, toured various parts of the metropolis to ensure compliance and encourage active participation.

Most shops within the Central Business District of Kumasi remained closed during the exercise in compliance with the Assembly’s directive, allowing traders and business owners to actively participate in the clean-up campaign.
