Schools across the Kpandai District have been hit by the ongoing teacher strike, leaving classrooms virtually empty as students roam and play on school compounds during instructional hours.
A visit to several schools in the district showed teachers absent from classrooms, with students gathered in groups, playing and moving around the school premises.
The situation has disrupted academic activities, leaving many students without lessons despite reporting to school.
The development follows a nationwide industrial action declared by Ghana’s three major pre-tertiary teacher unions; the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Education Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG).
The unions commenced the strike on Friday, September 25, 2026, over what they describe as prolonged delays in addressing critical concerns affecting teachers.
In a joint statement, the unions said the decision followed growing frustration over the handling of issues relating to teachers’ conditions of service by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
