Ghana’s film industry is set for another major cross-border collaboration as some of Nigeria’s biggest movie stars have arrived in Ghana for Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win’s upcoming international movie, Journey to Africa (Nzulezu).
Nollywood veterans Kanayo O Kanayo, Patience Ozokwo, Mike Ezuruonye, Charles Awurum, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko were among the stars who touched down at the Accra International Airport ahead of the production.
The actors were welcomed by Lil Win and his team, marking the beginning of activities for the project, which is his second international movie production.
Speaking at the airport, Lil Win expressed excitement about working with the Nigerian stars and described the project as one he believes will make a strong statement for West African cinema.
However, beyond the excitement surrounding the star-studded cast, Lil Win used the occasion to raise concerns about the challenges confronting local filmmakers.
He explained that his decision to bring in actors from Nigeria was partly influenced by the reluctance of some Ghanaian colleagues to support local productions.
According to him, he would have preferred to see more Ghanaian actors involved in the project but was compelled to look beyond Ghana to assemble the cast he wanted.
Lil Win therefore appealed for greater support for local film productions, particularly from Ghanaian actors and industry players.
He urged audiences to look forward to Journey to Africa, expressing confidence that the movie would rank among the notable productions to emerge from the West African film industry.
