The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called for improved maintenance and continuous development of tourist attractions to enhance Ghana’s tourism experience.
Her call came during a tour of selected tourist sites in the Eastern Region following the 2026 Eastern Regional Tourism Expo and World Tourism Day celebrations.
The Minister visited the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Aburi Craft Village and Papaye Gardens, where she interacted with facility managers and assessed the history, current state and development needs of the attractions.
At the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Ms Gomashie planted a tree and emphasised the importance of proper maintenance to preserve the site’s historical and environmental value.
She also urged tour guides to provide consistent and engaging accounts of the history of the various sites to sustain visitors’ interest and improve their overall experience.
The Minister further encouraged managers of tourism facilities to reinvest in their attractions, introduce new activities and continuously improve their facilities to attract visitors and encourage repeat visits.
Ms Gomashie was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto; Professor Kobby Mensah of the Ghana Tourism Development Company; Dr Eric Afornorfe of HOTCATT; directors of the Ministry and other officials.
The tour forms part of efforts to promote the sustainable development of Ghana’s tourism attractions while preserving the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
The Minister stressed the need to preserve Ghana’s heritage, improve existing attractions and create compelling reasons for visitors to return.
