When it comes to relationships and life in general, there’s one thing we know to be true – honesty is always the best policy.
But one woman has admitted that she’s been lying to her husband for the last 10 years about their sex life.
The unnamed wife is thinking it might finally be time to come clean and tell her partner the truth, but she’s not sure if it really is a good idea – or where she would even start.
So she’s turned to a relationship expert for some much needed advice on what she should do next.
In a letter to news.com.au’s Relationship Rehab column, the woman explained how she had been faking orgasms with her husband ever since they met.
She’d never had one with him but had been “putting on a show” each time they had sex.
She wrote: “I’ve been with my husband for 10 years and love him dearly. I enjoy our sex life but there is one big problem – I’ve never had an orgasm with him.
“I’ve literally been faking it for 10 years and now I don’t know what to do. I can climax alone and I had orgasms with a previous partner but have always ‘put on a show’ for my own husband.”
She goes on to say that when she first started pretending, she thought it would be something that sorted itself out on its own, but that hasn’t happened.
The woman adds: “Should I tell him the truth so we can get our sex life back on track?”
Relationship expert Isiah McKimmie shared some helpful suggestions for the couple to try.
She explained that one of the main issues with ‘faking it’ is that you don’t teach your partner what you actually enjoy during sex.
McKimmie recommends improving communication and foreplay – talking more about what you want and spending more time preparing your bodies for sex. She explains women need at least 15-20 minutes of foreplay beforehand.
She also advises preparing mentally and considering talking to a sex therapist.
“Don’t lose hope about getting things back on track. I’ve seen many people get their sex lives back on track, even couples who had struggled for decades and thought it wasn’t possible for them. It’s possible for you too,” she adds.
