Accra-based fashion designer Michael Brett Odoom, co-founder of The Cultured Man (Nateev), is counting heavy losses after flash floods submerged his home and workshop in Tse Addo following Monday’s downpour in Accra.

The designer revealed that machinery, fabrics, and customer orders worth thousands of cedis were completely destroyed by the floodwaters.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Odoom described the situation as devastating, saying he does not know how he will recover from the setback.

“First of all, it started from my house. Everything is gone. I couldn’t even take anything. This outfit is not even mine; I had to borrow it from someone else to wear.

“I came to the workshop, and everything is sitting in water and mud — machines, fabrics, everything is gone. The whole place is messed up, and we don’t even know where to start,” he said.

Mr. Odoom expressed deep frustration over the loss of equipment he had only recently acquired.

“I have lost everything. These were machines I bought just about five to six months ago. When there is a problem, technicians in Ghana cannot even work on them, so you need to call China for guidance on what to do or how to get the parts,” he lamented.

He also shared the emotional and practical burden the disaster has placed on him and his team.

“We are 14 in number. So together with my workers, we have to look for where to go. I don’t even know where we are starting from because people had things with us that needed to be delivered. So I have issued a press release, pleading with my clients to be patient with us.”

Despite the overwhelming loss, Mr. Odoom expressed gratitude for the support he has received.

“I want to say a big thank you to my church, Makers House Chapel. They have called to solidarise with me, as well as my friends and co-fashion designers. A lot of people have reached out, and I can’t even remember all the names because my mind is not stable.”

He ended on a note of faith, saying, “I am just praying for a miracle because it is only God who can restore me.”
