Newly elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abanga Fusaini Yakubu, has firmly rejected any suggestion that he could defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or share the NPP’s strategies with his twin brother, Hassan Abanga, who serves as an NDC Vice Chairman.

He explained that political differences within his family have never weakened his loyalty to the NPP. His mother supports the NPP, while his father and twin brother belong to the NDC.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV, Mr Abanga said the family had agreed to respect one another’s political choices and avoid political conversations during gatherings to prevent tension.

“This is not possible. If somebody should come and tell you I will expose my political strategies and ideas to the NDC, it doesn’t make sense. I love the NPP, so whoever knows me can testify to my loyalty to the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

He stressed that he had served the NPP with full commitment since 2014.

“I’ve spent the whole of 2014 to date serving the New Patriotic Party, wholeheartedly,” he stated.

Asked whether his close relationship with his twin brother could ever push him towards the NDC, he ruled it out completely.

“Excuse my words, not God, if you want me to use that word. Nobody. It’s NPP and NPP. And that is the NPP that I believe in,” he said.

Mr Abanga added that he had strong faith in the NPP brand and was determined to help it grow.

“Obia b3didi’ brand is not a small brand. It’s a very big brand; if I’m able to manage it well, one day the party people will lift me,” he said.

He won the National Youth Organiser position at the NPP’s national executive elections held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

He secured 1,550 votes, defeating five other aspirants: Clement Opoku Gyamfi (631), Michael Osei Boateng (78), Vera Oye Bram-Larbi (44), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah (46), and Alfred Kumi Ababio (25).
