The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo constituency in the Upper West Region, Hon. Lawyer Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is still showing leadership in both Parliament and in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as he has indicated that he would consult his seniors, elders and executives of the party before he makes any statement on the wish of the numerous party members to bid to become the flagbearer of the NDC in 2020.

Posters of the longest serving MP of the Fourth Republic of Ghana is reported to have appeared on social media with message that he (Bagbin) would be vying for the party to elect him as its flagbearer for elections 2020.

This has attracted numerous reactions from both within and outside the party on the suitability and marketability of the seasoned law-maker who has been in Ghana’s legislature since 1993.

Sources closed to the office of the astute politician has told the Accra Times that, Hon. Bagbin, a former leaders of the House as usual would not rush into any hasty decision but would look at all sizes of the coin before speaking.

According to the sources, the wisdom and sagacity of the Nadowli/Kaleo law-maker was what made former President John Dramani Mahama appoint him as one of his ‘wise-men’ in his government.

Hon Bagbin a linguist, a teacher, law-maker, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament is affable to all, on both sides of the political divide and it is no wonder that there are numerous calls for him to lead the great umbrella family to victory.

As a staunch member of the Catholic Church, the sources say, Hon. Bagbin believes that God is the maker of Kings.

Based on this belief, the sources say, that Hon. Alban Bagbin’s ultimate guide is God Almighty who rules in the affairs of men.

“If God selects Hon Bagbin as flagbearer of NDC and appoints him as President of Ghana, who can be against him (God)?.

The sources commended Hon. Bagbin, not placing his eye on the position of Flagbearer now, but demonstrating maturity on the re-organization, re-vitalizing and re-engineering the party to make the NDC formidable to wrestle political power in 2020.

A source within the party leadership said that, Hon. Alban Bagbin as a member of the party’s review committee, the Prof Kwesi Botchwey’s committee, commended his focus to assist the leadership of the party to ensure NDC is re-organized and healthy for 2020 general elections.

The source also maintained that, after the NDC party is healthy, that the leadership in consultation would come out with support for some of the would-be candidates who would have to meet the acid test of the delegates as to who should lead NDC in 2020.

Leadership is team-work, and an aide to Hon. Bagbin, Mr. Konnuba Joe believes that the superb record of the Nadowli/Kaleo law-maker including leading the NDC party from the Minority makes his boss a suitable choice for flagbearer of NDC for 2020.
