Ghanaian gospel musician Perez Musik has revealed that he once walked away from his office job at GHOne TV to pursue his passion for music.
Speaking on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, Perez Musik disclosed that after completing his studies at NAFTI, he had the opportunity to do his national service at GHOne TV, which was owned by Chatterhouse at the time.
After his national service, he was employed at the station, where he gained experience in production, editing and directing.
“I had put the music somewhere for a while. I was doing more of recording voiceovers and radio adverts, you know. I was also producing, directing, and editing my own programme. It was called Shades.
“It was a Christian programme where I bring in gospel musicians. It was a very beautiful programme. I’m thinking of actually recreating that programme again. It was very nice,” he recounted.
But after about two years, he reached a point where he felt he could no longer ignore his music.
“Then, Charlie, one day, the thing just tore from my eye top. I was like, ‘I’m not going to do it again. I want to go and sit at home fully and focus on my music.’ So impromptu, I just resigned,” he shared.
He said the move was also triggered by a realisation that he was neglecting his own gift while helping build someone else’s business.
“I was just walking to the office. And then the voice was like, ‘You are leaving your talent and your gift. You’re going to serve in another man’s business to aid his business growth. It’s not a bad thing. But for how long can you continue doing that?’”
The choice came with uncertainty, but Perez Musik said he had already been inspired by a book that encouraged people to “burn bridges” when pursuing their goals.
“That time, I had read a book. And it spoke about burning bridges, you know. If you really want to achieve something, burn all bridges, put pressure on yourself. It was difficult. It was a difficult decision. But I took it,” he noted.
Today, that bold move stands as a defining moment in Perez Musik’s journey. What began as a difficult leap from the security of an office job has grown into a career that has allowed him to find his place, make his mark and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s music and creative space.
“I have no regrets about leaving my office job. But I am so grateful to Chatterhouse because they gave me a lot of opportunities that helped me along my music journey,” he concluded.
