Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has expressed disappointment with the conduct of some appointees of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing them of misusing their legal authority.

He was speaking in an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

Mr Kpebu said he did not support the NDC’s return to power only for some government officials to engage in conduct he considers unacceptable.

“It is a shame, I didn’t campaign for the NDC to come and do this nonsense,” he said.

Mr Kpebu said he had actively campaigned for the NDC ahead of the 2024 general elections, despite what he described as the difficulties supporters faced under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Do you know how we suffered? Akufo-Addo, do you know how dangerous he was? Do you know what we lost?” he argued.

He questioned why the NDC government would, after returning to power, allow what he described as a misuse of state authority.

“Then you (NDC) come, this is how you are misusing the power?” he lamented.

Mr Kpebu said the situation was particularly disappointing given the sacrifices he and others made in support of the party’s return to government.

He further raised concerns about the implications of the controversy involving EOCO, warning that the conduct of state institutions could affect public confidence in the governing NDC.

According to him, the manner in which EOCO handles such matters could also have political consequences for the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He cautioned that if the concerns surrounding the agency’s actions and conduct are not addressed, the NDC could pay an electoral price in the next general election.
