The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has accepted responsibility for the Black Stars’ poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana are bottom of Group C without a point after losing their opening two matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in Bouake before suffering a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead in the second match but conceded four goals to suffer another damaging defeat.
The results have increased pressure on the GFA and head coach Carlos Queiroz, who mutually parted ways with the association on 1 October following the disappointing start.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said the association understood the frustration among supporters and accepted responsibility for the team’s current situation.

“It is normal for the Ghana Football Association to be blamed for Black Stars’ poor start to the AFCON qualifiers,” Mr Asante Twum told Kessben FM.
“No one can blame GPRTU for the team’s poor start, and GFA fully accepts the anger of Ghanaians. I also admit that we are not in normal times, but the leadership takes full responsibility for the current state of affairs.
“We cannot do everything alone because we will need the support of all stakeholders,” he added.
The GFA has since established a five-member committee to oversee the search for a new Black Stars head coach.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry on 9 October.
Ghana now face a difficult task to revive their qualification hopes, with the Black Stars scheduled to play Somalia in a double-header in October. Both matches will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Ghana are seeking to return to the continental tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
