The alleged coup plotters arrested

Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is recommending psychological examination for three persons arrested for attempting to topple the government.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs said no right thinking person will use a kitchen knife to cause instability in the country.

“These Jaguar jokers need psychological examination; ah how can you plot a coup with a knife used to chop tomatoes?” he asked.

Three suspects, Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm and his two accomplices – Mr Ezor Kafui, (a local weapon manufacturer) and Mr Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu (aka BB or ADC) were arrested in a joint security operation on Friday, September 20, 2019 after 15 months of surveillance.

Some items retrieved among other things included five locally manufactured pistols, with magazines fitted on them, a foreign pistol with registration number PX154006, three locally manufactured pistol barrels and three smoke grenades.

But, some security experts said their action cannot be linked to a coup given the weapons involved.

In support, Mr Jacobs on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, Tuesday said the suspects cannot overthrow any government.

He explained that, conditions which make coups possible are completely absent in the political dispensation.

The former NDC Chairman wondered how such “hungry looking men” could cause an uprising in Ghana.

Mr Jacobs commended the security agencies for acting promptly to avert any insecurity in the country.
