Acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has hit back at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for predicting the collapse of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
The NDC remain avowed critics of one of the flagship programmes of the Akufo-Addo government.
The party described the policy, then a campaign promise, as charade.

They argued the policy wasn’t sustainable because of what they say is lack of guaranteed funding to support its implementation.
Government, in the 2018 budget allocated GHc1 billion to support the implementation of the free SHS programme.  The amount is three times the GH¢400 million allocated to the programme in 2017.
“I really don’t understand why the NDC under John Mahama kept predicting doom for this policy. I think the NDC has issues with education and students.

I think they have issues with students accessing education,” he said on Accra-based Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
According to him, the John Mahama-led administration had the chance to invest more money to fund education but it chose to spend the money meant for education on ‘Akonfem’ [Guinea Fowl] and bus branding.

“You refused to invest in education and you still have headaches over this policy. So they want us to use funds meant for the free SHS policy to rear ‘nkonfem’ [Guinea Fowls] or to brand buses. I just don’t get it,” he said.
He believes critics of the Free SHS programme are just making a mountain out of a molehill, adding government will do everything to seek extra funding options for the programme, including stabilization fund and oil revenue.
