PRESS STATEMENT BY THE HO CENTRAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ON THE UNFORTUNATE ARREST OF THE DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY OF NDC
We of Ho Central Constituency of the Volta Region have received with shock and dismay the arrest of Mr. Koku Anyidoho, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, who hails from the Constituency, for reasons of having made statements or comments described as treasonable. Koku’s statement at worst could be described as a means of unreservedly stating how he feels about the whole military agreement with the US.
The consequences of such agreements on the destiny of a nation can not be underestimated hence the need to act with caution and that includes raising up emotional interest in the citizenry which comrade Koku sought to do leading to the unfortunate over reaction by the government through the security forces
Our advice to the Nana Addo government is that, they must tread cautiously. In our current constitutional dispensation, freedom of speech is the right of every citizen. The expression of an opinion publicly on any matter cannot create any flimsy excuse for opponent authority to intimidate any citizen.
This barbaric and authoritarian reaction from the NPP govt. is a signal of its nervousness and consequent doom.We call on government to release Koku Anyidoho immediately from incarceration. He does not deserve any such treatment. We in the Ho Central Constituency declare our unflinching support for Koku.
We are therefore calling for the immediate release of our son,Koku Anyidoho unconditionally.
Signed
Constituency chairman
( Divine Ferg Afedo)
Secretary
(Stanley Nelvis Glate)
