Henry Vorsa, a 38-year-old commercial driver has been shot dead by highway robbers at Nkonya in the Biakoye District on Monday.

The deceased said to be a presbyter with the Kwamekrom Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church was transporting traders from Abotoase to Accra when he was killed by the robbers.

Mr Prosper Ahlidza, Kpando Municipal Police Commander who confirmed the incident said a middle-aged woman was also shot in the right arm, with others sustaining minor injuries.

Mr Senyo Sabutey, a driver who was also a victim of the robbery, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that about 2230 hours on Monday, May 21, eight armed men wielding pump action rifles stopped him around the last barrier at Nkonya Wurupong.

He said they demanded cash and went for his sales in the vehicle’s compartment, after which he was asked to use his vehicle to block the main road and lie on the floor.

Mr Sabutey said a few minutes later, the deceased’s vehicle pulled up from Abotoase and sensing danger, he tried to reverse but landed in a ditch.

He said the robbers then rushed and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly.

Mr Sabutey said at about 2330 hours the robbers again ambushed a Metro Mass Transit Bus when the police arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with them.

He said one of the robbers sustained gun injury and fled into the bush, leaving his rifle which was retrieved by the police.
