Some youth in Kumasi are allegedly on a rampage, pelting stones and setting public facilities on fire.

Local reports say their actions have resulted in injuring a police officer in the process.

Their action is in connection with the recent police shooting of some seven persons suspected to be armed robbers.

An earlier demonstration planned by some youth at Asawasi was thwarted by some community leaders following which the youth blocked sections of the Asawasi-Akwatia Line road and burnt tyres.

Nhyira FM‘s Ohemeng Tawiah reports that the Asawasi police station has been allegedly set ablaze while the Manhyia Government Hospital was also attacked.

A car belonging to a doctor was smashed, leaving the windscreen destroyed while stones were scattered all over the OPD of the hospital.

He added that the situation forced personnel and patients at the hospital to run for their lives.

Currently, there’s a heavy police presence at Manhyia Government Hospital to avert further attacks from the youth.

The action has also brought about some traffic in the area.
