Kumawood actress Mercy Asiedu has paid tribute to the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, describing him as a mentor who helped shape her acting career.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, during the funeral rites of the late apostle at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, Mercy Asiedu said one of the lessons she continues to remember was his encouragement to overcome fear and believe in herself.
She recalled how Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka motivated her and other young performers while preparing them for performances at the National Theatre.
“What I remember about him most is when he was teaching us a story to go and perform at the National Theatre. He told me that as a human being, I should not allow anything to create fear in me when I want to achieve something in life,” she said.
According to her, the late apostle constantly encouraged them to develop a “can-do spirit” and trust that God would help them achieve their goals.
“He told us that we should always have that can-do spirit within us and say, ‘I can do it.’ When that spirit is in you, God will also help you achieve the results you desire,” she added.
Mercy Asiedu said Apostle Safo Kantanka challenged her whenever she doubted herself and pushed her to become a better performer.
“He told me that whatever I said I could not do, he would make sure I did it and became a bigger person in acting in the future. That is exactly what we are seeing today,” she said.
The actress credited much of her success and recognition in the Ghanaian movie industry to the influence and guidance of the late apostle.
“I am a great and popular actress because of him,” she stated.
Meanwhile, hundreds of mourners have gathered at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region for the funeral of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka despite an interim injunction issued by the Accra High Court seeking to halt the ceremony.
The funeral grounds were filled with sympathisers from across the country, with several VIP buses transporting mourners to the venue. Workers were also seen making final preparations, arranging chairs and canopies as funeral activities got underway.
