The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says it has commenced efforts to restore electricity supply following a major power system disturbance that affected parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29.
According to the company, the incident occurred at about 3:11 a.m., triggering the simultaneous shutdown of some power generation plants connected to the National Interconnected Transmission System and causing widespread power outages.
In a statement, GRIDCo said engineers and system operators immediately activated the company’s restoration plan and are working with other power sector agencies to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
“GRIDCo has activated its established system restoration procedures. Our engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore power within the shortest time possible without compromising safety.”
The company also announced that a comprehensive technical investigation is underway to determine the cause of the system disturbance.
“At the same time, a comprehensive technical investigation has commenced to determine the precise cause of this system event.”
GRIDCo apologised to customers for the disruption and thanked the public for its patience as restoration efforts continue.
“GRIDCo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and appreciates the patience and understanding of the public during this period.”
The company assured the public that updates would be provided as more information becomes available and power restoration progresses.
