The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop for registrars and human resource managers of the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs.
The workshop, being held at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Ogbojo, is aimed at strengthening the administrative and judicial functions of Ghana’s chieftaincy institutions.
Opening the programme, Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, said the chieftaincy institution remains an important pillar of governance and national development.
She noted that while chiefs provide leadership in their communities, the effectiveness of the institution also depends on the professionalism and competence of the officers who support them.
Madam Odoley Sowah encouraged participants to take advantage of the training to improve their knowledge in judicial administration, records management, leadership and human resource management.
The Head of the Civil Service Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, said the government remains committed to strengthening the administration of the Houses of Chiefs.
He disclosed that efforts are underway to harmonise the salaries and conditions of service of counsel serving the Regional Houses of Chiefs with those of lawyers at the Attorney-General’s Department to attract and retain qualified legal professionals.
He also assured participants that challenges delaying the processing of promotions for officers affected by the 2025 promotion exercise are being addressed in collaboration with the Public Services Commission.
Welcoming participants, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Alhaji Amin Abdul-Rahaman, described registrars as the administrative backbone of the Houses of Chiefs.
He urged participants to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery within their respective institutions.
The two-day workshop is expected to equip participants with practical skills in judicial administration, institutional governance, leadership and human resource management to enhance the effective administration of chieftaincy affairs across the country.
