The managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has questioned the logic behind the appointment of a hundred and ten (110) persons as ministers and deputy ministers of state.

According to him, he has failed to comprehend the logic behind the appointment of such huge numbers to run the machinery of government as President Akufo-Addo could have executed his policies with few numbers.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Programme Tuesday, Kwesi Pratt asked if the President appointed such huge numbers to undertake a great task which small numbers couldn’t.

“Ahba, why these numbers, I am very surprised and I ask are we going to carry timber or we are going to carry concrete to require such huge numbers…?,” he queried.

The President has come under heavy criticism for appointing a hundred and ten (110) ministers and deputy ministers.

His critics have argued this is going to cost the nation and not part of the practical means of protecting the public purse as was said by the NPP during the 2016 elections.

In response, the Communications Minister, Mustapha Hamid said the President never promised to run a lean government adding further that President Akufo-Addo is also appointing people based on the needs of the country.

“Nowhere did we ever promise a lean government because in our view it is not the leanness or bigness of a government that determines its output or its ultimate performance,” Hamid argued.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr described this appointment as a ‘record’ appointment as according to him, Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah achieved much with less number of ministers.

He further argued that he could not fathom why persons who would have criticized ex-President Mahama if he has appointed such huge numbers as ministers are silent over this issue.
