The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the National Ambulance Service, has organised an emergency simulation exercise at the Wa Regional Hospital to assess preparedness for mass-casualty incidents.
The exercise, conducted by the Wa Municipal Fire Station, was designed to test how effectively the emergency response agencies could work together during a major road traffic accident.
Led by ADO I James, the simulation centred on a head-on collision involving several casualties.
During the exercise, the participating agencies tested their response procedures, communication systems and ability to coordinate resources in managing multiple victims.
The exercise provided the emergency services with an opportunity to assess their level of preparedness and identify gaps that could affect their response during real-life mass-casualty situations.
The GNFS said the activity also reinforced the need for effective communication, teamwork and strong collaboration among emergency response agencies.
The exercise was conducted as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve the capacity of emergency responders to manage road traffic incidents involving large numbers of casualties.
