Ghana’s dancing teacher, Percy Jackson, has revealed truancy which was very high in his district inspired the dance project as part of the teaching and learning process.
The young man, who is a teacher at the Kwahu Obo Basic School in the Eastern Region, said the use of dance as a diverse tool in teaching has helped to change a lot in his district.
“I decided to use my talent to build a rapport with my pupils and create that friendly environment so that even if they have caricature parents at home, they will feel loved and much joy when they come to school,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi TV, the teacher, whose dancing videos with pupils have gone viral leading to an interview on BBC, explained he adopted the dance tool to provide his pupils opportunities he never had.
“I wanted to build a cordial relationship with my pupils which I never had as a kid because I believe the school is to help make pupils better and now this has greatly improved education in my district,” he said.
According to him, he believes the dance will also help discover hidden talents in his pupils and also help them find themselves.
