Ghana News – We didn’t call off our demo because of NPP

Deputy National Youth Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress, James Kofi Kunu has debunked all rumors that the NDC’s intended demonstration Friday dubbed, “March for Self Defense” was called off due to a counter protest by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members led by ‘Abronye DC’, NPP’s Brong Ahafo Youth Organizer.

According to him, the demo was called off after President Akufo-Addo in his State of Nation Address (SONA) directed the police to deal with NPP supporters who will harass NDC members.

The NDC youth wing earlier served notice to embark on a protest against what they call lawless attacks by some NPP supporters on former government officials, and some citizens working in government institutions.

The protest was called after the NPP activists led by the party’s Brong Ahafo youth organizer, Abronye DC decided to also organize a peace walk the same day.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Thursday, Kofi Kunu said they have confidence in the police to do a professional work.

It is never true we are afraid of the counter demo of the NPP but we respect Nana Addo and we are assured the police will do the work…” he stated.

The NDC deputy Youth Organizer noted that as true citizens, they will abide by the laws of the land but will retaliate if any member of the party is attacked.

“We don’t have to wait till our members are dead before we act. We are a serious discipline party. We are not indefinitely quitting the protest. We are monitoring the system to see the police do their work. We are sure the police will do a professional work otherwise they would hear from us. Some of us already geared up for it…” he said.

But Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC called the bluff of the NDC man insisting that the protest being called off smacks of hypocrisy and double standards.

“My line of work and our upcoming demo is much different than theirs. We are not going to counter theirs. Ours will still come on. We are going on a walk to appeal to Ghanaians that the cars that have been stolen so they should help us locate them.
