A Kumasi circuit court has slapped a five-year jail sentence on an electric welder for stealing four mobile phones at Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi when his victims were fast asleep.
The convict, Dennis Adu Adjei, 32 was convicted on his own plea of guiltiness to his charge of unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage and stealing, as he was convicted accordingly.
Denis Adu Adjei, in an open court, confessed to committing the crime and pleaded the trial judge to temper justice with mercy and be lenient in sentencing him.
The trial judge Her Honor Mary M.E Nsenkyire in sentencing the accused took into consideration the fact that he is a first-time offender, but the trial judge highlighted vehemently that such evil deed is rampant with Kumasi metropolis and sentenced him to five years imprison.
However, prosecution holds the fact that, on 14th February 2017, Police on a snap check point at Opoku Ware S.H.S Santasi, spotted the accused walking towards Santasi Round about.
Due to his suspicious movement the police rushed and arrested him and a search conducted on him led to the retrieval of four mobile phones.
During interrogation, the convict confessed having stolen the phones from a house on Santasi-Aprie road.
He confessed in his caution statement that he stole the phone by passing a stick smeared with glue through the sliding mirror of the victim’s window to steal the phones.
