National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bia East described as a total waste of time the maiden State of the Nations Address delivered in Parliament by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Hon. Richard Acheampong argued that almost all the things in the address were the very things the then opposition leader was echoing as leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run-up to the 2016 general elections.

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, February 21, 2016, in his address to Parliament cited among other things how Ghana’s economy has been depleted by the erstwhile Mahama-led administration.

He explained that Ghana’s debt stock now stands at 74% of GDP, and the total debt stock was GHS9.5 billion. By the end of 2016, the debt had ballooned to GHS122 billion.”

These figures have been disputed by the Minority in Parliament insisting that President Akufo-Addo was economical with the truth.

In support, Richard Acheampong on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday the President just “wasted his time in Parliament”.

In his view, instead of coming to the August House to repeat the things he had put out in the public domain, “he could have slept at home”

The Bia East MP said President Akufo-Addo cannot blame the Mahama-led administration for the crippling socio-economic conditions of the country because “we left them assets and liabilities”.

Hon. Acheampong indicated that the President is painting a gloomy picture of the economy just to avoid fulfilling the plethora promises to the Ghanaian people.
