Ten persons have been confirmed dead following clashes at Bimbilla in the Northern region Thursday.

This was after the bodies of eight more persons were found by the police. This brings the death toll to 10 and 11 injured.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed this to Adom News Friday.

He said the deceased include nine women and a man and their bodies have been deposited at the Bimbilla government hospital morgue.

ASP Tetteh also revealed that 17 suspects have been arrested and are assisting police in investigations.

Adom News’ Northern Regional correspondent, Illiasu Abdul Rauf said there is still tension in town.

He noted that shops have closed and people are fleeing from the town after the clashes.

Illiasu Abdul Rauf said the conflict was rekindled after one of the chieftaincy factions attempted to install a new chief.

But he said calm has been restored partially their men were dispatched to the area to maintain law and order.

At the moment, the curfew hours have been increased beginning from 4:00pm to 6:00am.
