Former Deputy Minister for Communications in the Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described President Akufo-Addo’s “Ghana beyond aid” mantra as an “empty slogan”.
He said it was a mere slogan “couched to hoodwink people into thinking that this government is unto something serious…”

“I think things that go to make up those policy propositions are completely missing. It means that again, it is not a properly thought through initiative” and for that matter “it is just sloganeering and empty rhetoric”, he said.
Addressing a gathering during the 61st Independence Day Celebrations at the Black Star Square in Accra on Tuesday, the President stated that Ghana is endowed with a lot of natural resources but sadly the truth is that the state of the nation does not show how endowed the country is.

He urged that a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ will not be achieved by merely talking but rather doing things differently, adding that “business, as usual, will not do it.”
“My fellow Ghanaians, ours is a country that is well endowed with many natural resources such as gold, bauxite, diamonds, oil, timber, cocoa, water, fertile land etc. The truth, however, is that the state of our nation does not bear out that we have these natural endowments. Poverty continues to be our lot. We have huge infrastructural deficits”, he said.

But Mr. Kwakye Ofosu commenting on the matter on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday said what Ghanaians require now in this our country is not lofty rhetoric but the delivery of the commitment that politicians make to the people.
