The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ahafo Region has organised a festival of culture and creative arts for basic school pupils as part of efforts to promote and preserve Ghana’s cultural values and traditions.
The event, held in Bechem under the theme “Cultural Education: Nurturing and Preserving Ghanaian Values,” brought together pupils from various schools to showcase aspects of Ghanaian culture through performances, traditional displays and creative arts.
The Ankobeahene of Bechem, Nana Osabarima Addai Asubonteng, expressed concern about the growing disregard for Ghanaian culture and values among the youth, describing it as a threat to the preservation of the country’s heritage.
He commended the GES for introducing initiatives that expose young people to their cultural identity and encouraged more efforts to ensure that children appreciate and uphold Ghanaian traditions.
The GES Director for the Ahafo Region, Abraham Fletcher, said the Service has established clubs in schools across the region to help guide pupils and students away from social vices that could affect their education.
He officially launched the clubs during the festival, explaining that they would provide platforms to promote discipline, values and positive behaviours among learners.
The Culture Coordinator for the Ahafo Region, Nana Bediako-Poku Philip, also praised teachers for their commitment to ensuring that pupils remain connected to Ghana’s culture and traditions.
He called for collaboration among parents, schools, traditional authorities and stakeholders to protect and promote Ghanaian values among the younger generation.
