The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has led members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board on a monitoring tour of selected schools in the Greater Accra Region to evaluate the implementation of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
The exercise took the team to Chorkor Presbyterian Basic School and Chemunaa Basic School, where they assessed the quality and nutritional value of meals served to pupils and engaged stakeholders on the effectiveness of the programme.
The visit formed part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen oversight of the initiative and ensure that beneficiaries receive safe and nutritious meals in line with government standards.
During the exercise, the Advisory Board interacted with pupils, teachers, school authorities and caterers to obtain first-hand information on the programme’s implementation and its impact on teaching and learning.

The team also assessed the quality of meals being prepared and served, expressing satisfaction with the standards observed at both schools.
Board members commended the caterers and school authorities for their commitment to providing nutritious meals to pupils, noting that their efforts were contributing to the success of the programme.
Addressing the pupils, Dr Lartey encouraged them to take advantage of the School Feeding Programme by attending school regularly, studying hard and striving for academic excellence.
She described the initiative as one of government’s key social protection interventions, aimed at improving school enrolment, attendance, retention and learning outcomes while promoting the health and well-being of children.
The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening the programme to ensure that every child enrolled continues to receive quality and nutritious meals.
She also stressed that the Ministry would intensify monitoring and accountability measures to maintain high standards, warning that caterers who fail to comply with the programme’s operational guidelines would be sanctioned in accordance with established procedures.

According to Dr Lartey, findings from the monitoring exercise will help shape ongoing reforms to improve the quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
The monitoring tour was undertaken with the participation of the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, and the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who joined the Advisory Board in reaffirming government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the initiative.
