Ga Mantse mourns Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II, describes his death as a national loss

The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II, describing his death as a major loss to Ghana’s chieftaincy institution and the nation.

In a condolence message dated July 14, 2026, the Ga Mantse, on behalf of the Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Elders and the people of the Ga State, extended his sympathies to the Dagbon Traditional Council, the Royal Family, chiefs and people of Dagbon, as well as all Ghanaians mourning the revered traditional ruler.

He praised the late Yaa-Naa’s reign, describing it as one characterised by wisdom, dignity, humility and a strong commitment to peace and the preservation of Dagbon’s cultural heritage.

According to the Ga Mantse, Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II dedicated his life to promoting peace, unity, justice and development among his people, earning admiration and respect from traditional leaders and citizens across Ghana and beyond.

He noted that the late monarch’s wise counsel, statesmanship and leadership contributed significantly to strengthening the role of traditional authorities in promoting national unity and preserving Ghana’s customs and values.

“The passing of Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II is not only a monumental loss to the people of Dagbon, but also to the entire chieftaincy institution of Ghana,” the statement said.

While mourning his passing, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II also celebrated the late Yaa-Naa’s legacy of selfless service, honour and dedication to humanity, expressing confidence that his contributions would continue to inspire future generations of traditional leaders.

He assured the people of Dagbon of the Ga State’s solidarity during the period of mourning and prayed for strength and comfort for the Royal Family, the Dagbon Traditional Council and all those affected by the loss.

The Ga Mantse concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II and expressed hope that his legacy would continue to guide the Dagbon Kingdom for generations to come.
