The body of Bashiru Isak, the Ghanaian national who was killed during recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, has been repatriated to Ghana as the government continues to demand justice over his death.

The mortal remains arrived in the country and were received by government officials and members of the bereaved family before being conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital, where they have been deposited.

Bashiru Isak was shot and killed in Cape Town during an incident linked to recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the government has formally called on South African authorities to conduct a swift, transparent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

According to the Ministry, those responsible for the killing must be identified and prosecuted, stressing that there should be no room for silence, impunity or any attempt to conceal the facts surrounding the incident.

Government has also called for stronger collaboration between Ghanaian and South African authorities to ensure that all the facts surrounding Bashiru Isak’s death are established and justice is served for his family.

The repatriation of his body comes amid continued concerns over the safety of Ghanaians and other foreign nationals living in South Africa following recurring incidents of xenophobic violence.
