Jordan Ayew is reportedly close to joining Sheffield United on a free transfer as the Championship club looks to strengthen its attacking options.
The Ghana captain has been without a club since leaving Leicester City following the Foxes’ relegation from the Championship at the end of last season.
According to reports in the UK, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley have also shown interest in the 34-year-old, but Sheffield United have emerged as favourites to secure his signature.
Ayew made 42 Championship appearances for Leicester during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists, with 24 of those outings coming as starts.
Sheffield United have turned to the free-agent market in a bid to bolster their squad, and Ayew’s versatility is understood to be one of the key attractions.
The experienced forward is capable of playing through the centre or on either flank, giving the Blades added options in attack.
The Ghana international would also bring a wealth of experience, having spent more than a decade in English football after beginning his European career with Marseille.
He has since enjoyed spells with Aston Villa, Swansea City and Crystal Palace in the Premier League before his stint at Leicester.
Reports suggest Ayew could be officially unveiled by Sheffield United on Friday, 11 September, when he celebrates his 35th birthday.
The forward is also expected to be included in Ghana’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia later this month.
