GNFS retrieves lifeless body of man in open drain at Wa SSNIT Residence

The body of a man in his late 30s has been retrieved from a water-filled open drainage system at SSNIT Residence in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The deceased, identified as Eric Adams, was discovered floating in the drain on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

The incident occurred opposite Frimps Oil Filling Station after the Wa Municipal Fire Station received a distress call from D/PW/C Inspector Diana Anaaba.

In response, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed a seven-member rescue team to the location.

Firefighters subsequently entered the drainage system and retrieved the lifeless body, which was later handed over to the Police for further investigation.

Family members from Woggu subsequently arrived at the scene and identified the deceased as Eric Adams.

The circumstances surrounding how he ended up in the drainage system remain unclear, with the Police expected to investigate the incident and establish what led to his death.
