A newlywed couple and four other people have reportedly been kidnapped along the Eruku-Iyemero Road in Kwara State, Nigeria, while returning from an engagement ceremony.
The victims, identified as Rev. Abiodun David and his wife, Funmilayo Bamidele, were travelling with four others on Saturday evening, September 26, 2026, when gunmen reportedly intercepted their vehicle.
The group had attended an engagement ceremony in Eruku and was returning from the event when the incident occurred.
Sources familiar with the incident said the group was initially expected to use the Isanlu Road. However, the driver reportedly opted for a back road to allow him to drop off the best man and other members of the group at Iyamoye.
The vehicle was intercepted by the gunmen after the change of route, with all six occupants reportedly taken away.
The incident has heightened concerns among residents and travellers who use the route, while efforts are reportedly underway to locate the victims and secure their release.
Further details on the identities of the other four victims and the circumstances surrounding the abduction remain unclear.
