Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody following the withdrawal of an application by the Attorney-General seeking to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
Her release comes almost two weeks after the Court of Appeal overturned her conviction, resulting in her acquittal and discharge.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Court of Appeal struck down the application after the Attorney-General withdrew it, allowing for Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu’s release. Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu served as the CEO of MASLOC from November 2013 to January 2017.
She faced prosecution on 78 counts, including conspiracy to steal, theft, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, improper payment of public funds, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
The Accra High Court convicted her in April 2024 and sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia.
She returned to Ghana in June 2026 following her extradition from the United States and was subsequently taken into custody.
Her lawyers later challenged the conviction at the Court of Appeal, which overturned the High Court’s decision and acquitted and discharged her.
Although the Attorney-General has indicated that the State intends to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision at the Supreme Court, the withdrawal of the stay application allows the acquittal and discharge to take effect pending the further legal process.
